👨Prostate cancer (PC) is one of the most common malignant diseases in men.
🌎Annually, more than 550,000 new cases of PC are registered worldwide.
🇺🇸According to the National Cancer Institute (USA):
✅PC represents 9.9% of all new cancer cases
✅In 2012-2016, an average of 109 cases of PC occurred and 19 men died out of every 100,000 US residents
✅In 2016, there were 3110403 men with PC in the US
✅The median age of PC diagnosis is 66 years
✅The median age of death from PC is 80 years.
🇷🇺In Russia in 2016:
✅38,371 new cases of PC were diagnosed
✅An average of 38 men per 100,000 of the population were diagnosed with PC
✅A total of 12,523 men died of PC
✅Stage IV PC, at which radical treatment is no longer possible, was determined in 17.4% of patients
✅Stage III of PC was diagnosed in 25.1% of patients
✅Stage I-II PC - at 56%
✅The stage of the disease was not established in 1.5% of patients.
☠️Over a period of 10 years (from 2006 to 2016), mortality from PC in Russia increased by 18.97%.
The prevalence of PC depends on ethnic and geographical characteristics:
📈African Americans living in the USA have the highest morbidity rate, 60 per cent higher than white Americans
📉The lowest incidence is among Chinese living in China.
Other risk factors for the development of PC are considered:
👨👦👦genetic predisposition — the risk of disease is doubled if one relative of the first degree of kinship (father, brother) had PC;
— the risk of disease increases by х5-11 if 2 or more relatives had PC
👴age — up to the age of 65, PC affects an average of 44 white Americans for every 100,000; at the age of 65-74, this figure rises to 900, or more than 20 times!
🥓eating habits — men who consume large amounts of animal fats are at increased risk of developing PC.
